Gavin to meet Bank of Scotland bosses over branch closure

Gavin Newlands MP has arranged to meet Bank of Scotland bosses in order to try and convince them to reverse their decision to close the Bank of Scotland Glasgow Road Branch.

Earlier this month, the Bank of Scotland informed customers that they were closing their Glasgow Road branch. As a result, Gavin has arranged to meet senior bank bosses, in London, alongside Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP, Mhairi Black. In addition, Gavin will also meet bosses in Renfrewshire – alongside members of the local community.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“I welcome the fact that senior officers at the Bank of Scotland have agreed to meet me and allow me to put forward the case as to why the Glasgow Road branch should remain open. This will be forward up by another meeting where members of the local community – who will be affected most by the closure – will be able to stress the impact that will be caused by this decision.

"This is an extremely important service to the local community and the option offered by the bank, for customers to move onto digital bank or travel over a mile and a half to the next nearest branch are not viable options.

"There is a significant elderly population in this area and they value having a local branch that they can use to speak directly to an advisor. Some of these customers have been loyal to the Bank of Scotland for a good number of years and it’s only right that the bank show the same loyalty and keep this branch open.”
