Gavin welcomes Rolls-Royce's £60m investment in Renfrewshire
Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has today welcomed the announcement from Rolls-Royce that the company are to invest around £60m in its facility in Inchinnan in his constituency by creating a new Centre of Competence (CoC).
Rolls-Royce’s investment will see the creation of a new Centre of Competence (CoC) for the manufacturing of aerofoils and a new proposed location for the manufacturing of high-performance shafts
The new CoC will manufacture an extensive range of aerofoils, including turbine blades and compressor blades, for older Rolls-Royce’s engines that are no longer in high volume production, such as the Adour and BR715.
This will enable Rolls-Royce to continue to support engines that are in service and provide components for remaining engine production. As this work involves creating a small number of parts across a wide range of different components, it requires a flexible workforce with a high degree of specialist knowledge.
The proposed new location for the manufacture of high-performance shafts will produce components that sit in the core of all Rolls-Royce aero engines, transmitting power from turbines to compressors. Commenting on Rolls-Royce’s announcement of their £60 million investment in his constituency, Gavin Newlands MP said:
“I am delighted to welcome the news that Rolls-Royce is to invest £60 million in their site in Inchinnan to support the creation of a new Centre of Competence to support their business.
“Whilst Roll-Royce’s £60 million worth of investment in the site is, of course, welcome news to the workers at the site in Inchinnan and their families, as it potentially mitigates previously announced job losses, it is also great news for the local economy in Renfrewshire too.”
