Gavin backs AOHL campaign to tackle digital isolation
Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has backed a project run by Action on Hearing Loss Scotland which aims to reduce digital exclusion experienced by older people with hearing loss.
‘Online Today!’, which is funded by Big Lottery Fund Scotland, is available to train senior citizens who are deaf or have hearing loss in Paisley and across Renfrewshire how to go online, set up an email address, stay secure when using the Internet and get the most from their tablet, smartphone or eReader.
Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“Technology can help make everyone’s daily lives much easier and more interesting but Action on Hearing Loss Scotland have found that many senior citizens with hearing loss often don’t have experience of using the latest devices or know how to get themselves set up online.
“The Online Today! is a great initiative which will help reduce digital exclusion and I encourage senior citizens with hearing loss throughout Renfrewshire who could benefit from the training to sign up and learn how to get the most out of the latest digital technology.”
Delia Henry, Director of Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, said:
“We’re delighted that Gavin Newlands MP is supporting Online Today! which is available to patiently introduce groups and individuals who are deaf or have hearing loss in Renfrewshire to help build their confidence of using devices to access online entertainment, consumer bargains and stay connected with friends and family.”
