Local MP celebrates Erskine’s 100th birthday

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has submitted an Early Day Motion in the Westminster Parliament to recognise the centenary year of Erskine Hospital.

Throughout 2016, Erskine Hospital is celebrating 100 years of caring for veterans and spouses and have organised a series of events to mark their centenary year.

Gavin submitted a motion – which was supported by former First Minister Alex Salmond – to celebrate and pay tribute to the staff and volunteers at Erskine who have cared for veterans over the past 100 years.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“For 100 years Erskine has provided care and support to our veterans and their spouses. Since their inception, Erskine have helped over 85,000 veterans, and we should all be grateful for the support that they have provided to our former servicemen.

“I was more than happy to be able to submit a motion to parliament which recognises the century of care that Erskine has provided. I was delighted that this was supported by the former First Minister and a former Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland.

“As well as celebrating Erskine’s centenary year, I would also like to wish them every success for the next 100 years.”
