Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has welcomed the Scottish Government’s legislative programme for the year ahead, including plans to introduce an offence which takes action against those who commit psychological abuse against women and girls.
The SNP Government has unveiled a comprehensive legislative programme – including bills on Social Security, Air Passenger Duty, Railway Policing and Gender Balance on Public Boards which make use of new powers that are being devolved to the Scottish Parliament.
Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“This is progressive programme for government which outlines the Scottish Government’s committing to growing our economy, protecting our most vulnerable from further Tory austerity and closing the attainment gap in our schools.
“There is a lot to welcome in this legislative programme, including plans to introduce an offence which takes action against those who commit psychological abuse against women and girls.
“This bill will go a long way in helping to tackle and eradicate all forms of abuse that still too many women and girls face on a daily basis.
“This Programme for Government is a plan based on success and inclusion that will be delivered by a government acting in the best interests of all of Scotland – a government for everyone who lives here.”
