Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“It is a great honour to have been appointed as the SNP Spokesperson for Sport at Westminster. Sport has always played a big part in my life, and I look forward to representing and defending the interests of Scottish sport at Westminster.
“I recently met with a number of the national sporting governing bodies in Scotland to gain a better understanding of some of the challenges they are facing. I want to use my new position to help with those challenges and to create further opportunities for sport to grow in Scotland.
“Sport can quite clearly change people’s lives for the better, and I look forward to playing my part in helping to promote all aspects of Scottish sport.”
