Newlands: “Lacklustre Queen’s Speech from lame duck PM fails to deliver confidence for Renfrewshire businesses
June 21, 2017
Gavin Newlands, SNP Candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has said that the Queen’s Speech from a ‘lame duck’ Prime Minister will do little to build confidence amongst businesses in Renfrewshire.
Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“Theresa May is in office, but clearly not in power – she is a lame duck Prime Minister leading a lame duck government.
“It took Theresa May just four days to ditch her first flagship manifesto policy, and it’s taken barely four weeks for her to ditch the rest.
“As we approach the Brexit negotiations, which will have an impact on individuals and businesses throughout the UK, it is an outrage that Theresa May is presiding over so much uncertainty.
“She is failing to lead her government, her backbenchers are openly rebelling and the DUP are holding her to ransom as a price of going into coalition.
“I know from my work as a constituency MP that Renfrewshire businesses are wanting certainty as to what Brexit will mean for them. They are wanting action to try and turn around the faltering economy but this Queen’s Speech fails to deliver that. The Tories may have given up on the day job of governing, but I will work alongside my SNP colleagues in pushing for an alternative to austerity that delivers for everyone in Renfrewshire.”
