Gavin Newlands MP re-elected to lead White Ribbon group in UK Parliament

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has been re-elected as the Chair of an all-party group at Westminster which works to promote the positive role that men can play in ending violence against women and girls.

Mr Newlands previously served as the Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for The White Ribbon Campaign during the last parliament, and played a crucial role in encouraging the UK Government to back legislation which should eventually lead to the UK Government ratifying the Istanbul Convention – the gold standard approach towards eliminating violence against women and girls.

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“I am delighted to have been re-elected by my colleagues to serve as the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for The White Ribbon Campaign.

“I am passionate about ending the violence that far too many women and girls still face and will continue to work as hard as I can to achieve that goal, stressing the positive role that e men and boys can play in helping to end gender-based violence.

“I look forward to working with colleagues from across all the political parties to strengthen the UK Government’s upcoming Domestic Abuse Bill, taking us on our way to finally being able to ratify the Istanbul Convention – the gold standard approach for ending violence against women and girls.”
