Gavin Newlands MP praises ‘fantastic’ housing charity
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has welcomed the support that a local charity is providing to families who are experiencing problems with their housing.
Mr Newlands met with the staff and volunteers at Shelter Scotland’s Foundations First in Ferguslie Park to learn about the wide range of help that they provide to families to help resolve any housing difficulties that they may be facing. This includes providing assistance to prevent evictions, dealing with any landlord disputes and helping to arrange repairs to be made to a property.
Mr Newlands also learned about ‘The Men’s Shed’ project that has been set-up to help combat isolation amongst men.
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“I am grateful to the team at Shelter Scotland’s Foundations First for providing such a warm welcome to me. They went above and beyond to showcase the fantastic service that they are providing to families who are experiencing issues with their housing.
“The passion that this local organisation has in helping people resolve their housing problems is evident. Their focus on preventing homelessness not only helps the families directly affected but also helps ease the pressure on the public’s finances.
“It was also great to hear about their Men’s Shed, a project which helps to combat loneliness amongst men. This is a growing problem in society and I think we could all learn a lot about the work that Foundations First are doing with this.
“Shelter Scotland’s Foundations First is another example of the fantastic work that’s taken place in Renfrewshire. I would encourage any family who is experiencing housing difficulties to get in touch with them.
Alison Watson, Deputy Director of Shelter Scotland, said:
“I’d like to thank Gavin Newlands MP for taking the time to come and meet the staff and members of the community at Foundations First.
“His praise is welcome and testament to the hard work and dedication of the team whose service was recently rated as excellent by the Care Inspectorate.
“Our team looks forward to continue delivering high quality support services to the people of Renfrewshire.”
