Gavin Newlands MP bets on Grand National for Rebecca

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, will be cheering on seeyouatmidnight in the Grand National as he seeks to win money for a young Erskine girl who is fighting a rare children’s cancer.

Rebecca was diagnosed with a rare Children's cancer (Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma). Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive disease that affects around 100 children each year in the UK. It has the highest mortality rate of any children’s cancer, and sadly we know all too well locally just how deadly this cancer can be with 3 year old Layla Greene being taken from us earlier this year.

Mr Newlands visited the local Coral store in Renfrew to place a charity bet on seeyouatmidnight to win tomorrow’s Grand National. Any winnings that he secures will be donated to support Rebecca’s crowdfunder which is raising money to send Rebecca to America to receive specialist treatment.

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“I will be paying very close attention to this year’s Grand National with any winnings from my £50 free Coral bet going towards Rebecca’s crowdfunder appeal which is raising money to send Rebecca to America to receive specialist treatment and care.

“Rebecca’s bravery is inspiring as she battles the Neuroblastoma. I can’t imagine what Rebecca’s parents are going through at this time, so I’m happy to offer any support that I can. Only 100 children contract this pernicious disease across the UK each year, and with little Layla Greene having passed away just 3 months ago, to have had two cases locally at same time is painfully unfair.

“I’d encourage everyone that can to back Rebecca’s crowdfunder and help her family take her to America to receive the specialist care that she needs."
