Gavin Newlands MP visits Community Hub

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has visited an innovative facility in Renfrewshire to find out about the work they’re doing to keep local people safe.

The Renfrewshire Community Safety Partnership Hub is a partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue housing associations and other local partners. The £1.5m project brings partners together in a single building and allows all services to share information and to facilitate improved outcomes for the people of Renfrewshire.

Mr Newlands met with Tasking and Development Manager, Maxine Hendy, and Senior Tasking Development Officer, Margaret Ure. In addition to taking a tour of the facility, Gavin also sat in the Daily Tasking meeting. This is where incidents of note are shared between the partner organisations to ensure all effective interventions are made to help reach the fastest resolution for everyone involved.

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“I found it extremely useful to visit the Hub to learn how the various groups in the Partnership, led by the Council, the Police and Fire Service, come together to keep us safe and ensure improved and speedier outcomes for people across Renfrewshire.

“I appreciated the opportunity to sit in on the Daily Tasking meeting. This is area of best practice that other places across Scotland are looking to replicate.

“The Hub deals with many issues affecting local communities, including anti-social behaviour, crime and wilful fire-raising. This innovative project works largely with vulnerable individuals, and it is to be applauded that the Hub has a number of support services which ensure that people receive the appropriate level of support.

“It was also great to speak to the Hub staff about how their partnership work extends to tackling cases of domestic violence. I have often argued that adopting a partnership approach towards gender-based violence is key, and the Hub plays a fundamental role in tackling domestic violence across Renfrewshire.

“By working together and through intervening early, the Renfrewshire Community Hub Partnership is doing important work day-in and day-out to keep us all safe.”
