Local MP urges constituents to support Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has encouraged people in Renfrewshire to donate to a local cause which helps provide Christmas presents to children who may otherwise not receive any gifts on Christmas day.

Local Renfrew mum, Lauren Roy-Sutherland, has set-up this cause and is working with all of Renfrewshire’s public libraries, local social work services, Barbados Thread, Renfrewshire Foodbank and the Star Project.

Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank is collecting toys for Renfrewshire children aged up to 18. They are working with a number of businesses and organisations across Renfrewshire to set up convenient drop-off points where local people can donate gifts to.

From October onwards, Gavin Newlands’ constituency office in Renfrew, will act as a drop-off point and he has encouraged local constituents to donate gifts to children who might not otherwise receive any presents this Christmas.

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“We’re still in the summer season but it’s not too early to start thinking about Christmas plans. Sadly, many children from across Renfrewshire will not be counting down the days to Christmas as they will wake opening very few, if any presents at all.

“This can happen for a range of reasons, the main one being poverty. I know how excited my own children are about Christmas, and it’s heart-breaking to think that some children will not get to experience that same level of excitement.

“The Renfrewshire Toy Bank is a fantastic cause which seeks to make sure that no children go without this Christmas. Testament to the hard work of Lauren, a large number of Renfrewshire businesses and organisations have agreed to become drop-off points allowing residents to donate gifts towards this worthy cause. From October, in addition to its regular use as a food bank drop-off point, my constituency office at 6 Porterfield Road in Renfrew will also act as a drop-off point for the toy bank. I would encourage all local constituents to pop-in and donate a toy or gift to the Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank.”

Lauren Roy-Sutherland from Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank, said:

“Any donation big or small really could change a child’s Christmas Day. We have been working a lot behind the scenes and have big announcements coming soon. If anyone would like to keep up to date or be involved please follow our Facebook page- Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank.”
