Gavin takes the EU campaign to Renfrew

The Renfrewsire branch of the SNP took to the streets to convince local people that they should vote to stay in the European Union.

The local SNP branch had a street stall at Renfrew Town Hall, on Saturday, and spoke to residents about the positive case for remaining in the EU.

The European Union Referendum is due to be held on Thursday 23rd of June.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“The EU referendum is of real importance to Scotland – giving us the opportunity to make clear that we want to work in partnership with our friends and neighbours in Europe and to continue to benefit from the many important social protections the EU guarantees.

“I was delighted to join local SNP activists in Renfrew to make the positive case for why we should remain in the EU. The local SNP are planning on taking our positive campaign to other parts of Renfrewshire over the next few days.

“The fact is that Scotland benefits enormously from our place in Europe – the EU guarantees important social protections such as employment rights and parental leave, membership of the world’s largest single market helps to create jobs and investment in Scotland and the freedom of movement enables Scots to travel, work and study across the EU and allows skilled EU migrants to work in our NHS and other vital sectors.

“It is for these progressive reasons why I firmly believe that Scotland should vote to remain in the EU.”
