Gavin Newlands MP returns to Westminster

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has returned to Westminster following the summer recess.

Mr Newlands has spent the past few weeks travelling around the constituency, meeting local organisations and community groups to find out more about the work that they’re doing in Renfrewshire.

Mr Newlands has set out his parliamentary intentions for the next coming months. His priority will be to seek clarity over what Brexit will mean for Renfrewshire and Scotland.

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“It’s been an incredibly busy summer as I have filled my diary in order to ensure that I can be out and about, meeting as many local organisations as possible.

“I would like to thank all the organisations and community groups who have met with me over the summer. I’ve met with well over 50 organisations over the past few weeks and the thing I take most from these meetings is that there’s so much fantastic work being done in Renfrewshire. I take pride in being a locally-based MP and look forward to meeting with more Renfrewshire organisations throughout the year.

“The UK Parliament returned this week and I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure that Renfrewshire’s voice is heard in Westminster. The coming parliamentary session will present a range of challenges, none more so than making sense of Tory Brexit.

“The summer months have highlighted that the Tories are clueless about what Brexit will mean for our communities and businesses. Along with my SNP colleagues, I will work to stop the Tories from pulling us out from the single market and preventing a Tory power grab over responsibilities which are devolved to the Scottish Parliament. We will also continue to lead the way in demanding the UK Government do the right thing and guarantee the residency status of EU nationals who have made the Scotland their home.”
