National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland based in Renfrewshire
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has welcomed the announcement that the National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland (NMIS) will be based in Renfrewshire.
Renfrewshire will be home to the new £65 million National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland (NMIS), with Strathclyde University announced as the anchor university.
Mr Newlands attended the announcement today in Inchinnan today, which was attended by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, Renfrewshire Council Leader, Iain Nicolson and Keith Brown MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work.

“The announcement that the National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland is to be based in Renfrewshire is a fantastic boost to the local economy and a great tonic to the area following Friday’s hugely disappointing City of Culture decision.
“This is an early Christmas present for the Renfrewshire economy as it will help to create jobs in the area, providing opportunities not only for local businesses, but bringing businesses and academics from across Scotland to Renfrewshire. This innovative investment will add huge value to Scotland's national economy in addition to our own local economy.
“Manufacturing is crucial to Scotland’s economic future and I’m delighted that the centre of manufacturing expertise will be based in Renfrewshire.”
